Golden Ears Bridge, which connects Maple Ridge and Langley, was open Sunday for pedestrians only, giving them a chance to walk the one-kilometre span. The number of pedestrian excited to walk over the bridge exceeded TransLink's expectations (they expected only 30,000, but there were more then 40,000).

Musical performances, a vintage car show, and a contest that included a hula-hooping event kept bridge-goers entertained.

“Overall, it was terrific,” said Judy Rudin, TransLink spokeswoman. “We had a lot of different people showing up like people who worked on the bridge and locals on both sides of the bridge.”
