The three buildings pictured all remain, minus some decoration on the left building and modifications of the lower floor of the Alvarado Block. In the foreground of the old pic are old streetcar lines that used to run down Commercial.

The Grandview Theatre stood where this replacement now stands. The theatre was built in 1913 and originally showed silent films. Both buildings on either side are still there, as shown in the picture.

BNSF Railway's Glen Yard at the eastern end of False Creek Flats.
In a City of Vancouver report - dated December 20, 2006 and entitled "Waterfront to False Creek Flats Rail Grade Separation Study" - one concept being examined is a crossing at Malkin Ave that diverts existing cross-town vehicular traffic away from Prior onto a new street to the south that would cross over the Glen Yard rail tracks and connect to Clark Drive.
Should this happen Venables Street could be downgraded to a crossing with rail priority or closed entirely.

A big tree, a different paint job and no chimney stacks is almost all that differs from 1927 to the present. This Queen Anne beaut was built in 1904 and is located in the neighbourhood of Strathcona in Vancouver, BC.

Most of the buildings in the picture remain, with the exception of the building on the corner of the 1600 Block , which used to be the Canadian Bank of Commerce Building (1912). It was demolished in the '40s. The turret on the building across the street was removed but is in excellent shape otherwise. Also note another small Safeway store was located on the Drive. As well, notice the street car lines in the foreground that were removed in the 1950's.
